A.J.C. “Ian” Smith

Ian was a partner of Aquiline from its launch in 2005 until 2022. Previously, he was the chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., a role he assumed after having served as chief executive officer and president. Prior to serving as president, he was the chief executive officer of MMC’s Consulting and Financial Services Group, which included Putnam Investments and Mercer Consulting.

Ian shared the firm’s and his fellow partners’ commitments to nonprofit board leadership. He was a member of the Board of Overseers of Weill Cornell Medical College and was a trustee of the Central Park Conservancy (of which he was also a former chairman), Carnegie Hall, and WNET.ORG.
